Ebony Coffee Company
Our Range of Distinctive Coffees
Espresso Blends
Astoria Special Blend. A rich coffee blended around beans from the Pacific. It has good body and middle palate. Won't go bitter when used as double shot. Suitable for filter machines.
Manhattan. This coffee displays superior acidity but has a lighter body. With double shots it produces a delightful milk based coffee. Also suitable as a filter coffee.
House Blend. Blended for those who want a richer full-bodied espresso coffee with a hint of a bite. There are no light bodied "blenders or fillers" in this coffee. This is an excellent blend if you take your coffee black and without sugar provided you don't over extract it.
Classic Espresso. A classic Italian-style blend. It is roasted to the darker European preference and contains a portion of Robusta. This blend is distinctly different from most NZ offerings.
Seattle. A blend of lighter bodied coffees in order to produce a mellow brew. Makes excellent espressos (short black). Blended as an espresso but delightful in plunger and filter also. Certified organic.
Non Espresso
Coffees
Caffe Nero. A "French Roast" - it's black, it's oily and it's popular. Will also make a good espresso.
Mocha Java. A very rich mouth filling coffee. This is a delightful coffee and very suitable for restaurants.
Unblended Coffees
Central America
Costa Rica SHB. A mild coffee lighter in body than Colombian. It makes a delightful well balanced brew. A very versatile coffee.
Guatemala. Light roasted versatile coffee. Mild and with a slightly woody flavour.
Mexico. Smooth and fragrant with good, mellow depth of flavour. Either fair trade organic or not organic - both are stocked.
South America
Brazil. A soft and well balanced coffee that will offend nobody. Made strong it never gets bitter.
Colombia. Graded Excelso. The bean is rich, aromatic and full bodied. If you don't know what to buy then start with Colombia - it's an excellent coffee. Also available in Decaffeinated and Organic.
Caribbean
Cuba. Full bodied with a lush, smoky flavour. This and cigars gave Company Segundo his distinctive voice.
Africa
Kenya. The king of East African coffees. A bean with full acidity and good body and makes a lively brew.
Ethiopia Yirgracheffe. A washed bean. Some consider this to be THE coffee of Ethiopia.
Don't die without trying it at least once.
Tanzania.
Slightly lighter bodied than Kenya but retains good acidity. Organic and Fair
Trade.
India
Chickmagalore. A delightful medium
bodied balanced washed coffee. Nice in a plunger.
Monsooned
Malibar. A unique coffee. These days the
monsooning is done in India not on the sea voyage. Try before you
die.
Mysore. A very well graded washed coffee from India. Well balanced and nice in a plunger.
Pacific
Papua New Guinea. A full bodied earthy coffee with low acidity. Organic as well as not organic. Sigri Estate also stocked.
Decaffeinated. Don't be put off by the knockers of decaffeinated coffee. They make
a surprisingly good espresso and are also suitable as filter
coffees. Decaffeination by the Swiss Water method. This method renders the
bean to a slightly softer version of the original varietal.
Colombia. The bean is rich, aromatic and full bodied. If you don't know what to buy then start with Colombia - it's excellent coffee.
Sumatra. High body, medium acidity and aromatic.
Ethiopia.
Medium body, medium acidity. Full flavour coffee.
